Five-year-old Cheng-Cheng was once a cheerful and playful child. However, a sudden episode of encephalitis changed the course of his growth. His speech was affected, his physical coordination and daily living abilities regressed, and he even had to rely on a nasogastric tube for feeding.
Facing this unexpected challenge, his family chose not to give up. In their search for support, they came to Eden’s Qijin Children Development Community Service Center and connected with professional home-based early intervention services.
With the patient guidance of therapists, Cheng-Cheng began rebuilding his abilities from the basics — improving motor coordination, relearning how to eat through oral training, and with his parents learning to use everyday household items to help ease muscle stiffness.
In just six months, Cheng-Cheng can now stand for over 30 minutes with assistive support — and has successfully removed the feeding tube.
Through the joint care of his family and Eden, Cheng-Cheng’s smile has returned, bringing renewed hope to families of children who grow at their own pace.
