In our country, many children live in extreme poverty without access to basic needs like nutrition and education. Eat Play Read addresses these challenges through a holistic early childhood development program. It provides daily nutritious meals to support growth and learning, along with Edu-libraries stocked with books, games, and tools that foster cognitive, sensory, and motor development. Through food, play, and education, the project gives children the foundation to grow and thrive.
Many children in South Africa face severe hunger and poverty. During the day, many find refuge in Early Learning Centers, which often care for over 100 young children in tin shacks. They lack educational and nutritional resources. Because thousands of poverty-stricken children are brought to these centers for day care, they are the perfect catchment areas for positive impact.
Eat Play Read ensures that children receive a daily nutritious meal, recognizing that learning can't happen when basic needs-like hunger-go unmet. The project also provides access to well-resourced learning environments. Each classroom includes an edu-library which consists of a bookshelf stocked with books and other educational equipment to assist children in fine motor, language, sensory and cognitive development.
Our hope is that Eat Play Read gives young children a safe, nurturing space to learn, grow, and develop essential skills they might not otherwise have the opportunity to gain-while ensuring they receive a nutritious meal each day to support that growth.
