The Ecobricks Project continues to successfully provide waste disposal solutions in Uganda! Angel Projects Uganda staff members collect plastic bottles and other garbage from around the Rubuguri area in order to create ecobricks, building blocks that repurpose trash into construction materials for new projects. The staff meet every Wednesday to make ecobricks, which are then stored at the Angel Projects' compound until they're needed for a construction project, such as a safety wall or a community bench.
Oftentimes, the community gets involved in both trash collection and the creation of the ecobricks. Recently, the school-age children who are sponsored through Angel Projects came to the compound to help tidy the area and collect trash for ecobricks. Leading the charge was Anitah, one of Angel Projects' nursing students. As part of the sponsorship agreement for university, nursing school, or pharmaceutical school, we ask that the students volunteer their time with The Angel Projects during their school breaks. Anitah, who also volunteers at the local health clinic during her breaks, was happy to help out at the compound, and she was a great leader and example for the younger children.
The Ecobricks Project is important in Rubuguri not only for its impact on the local environment but also for its role in uniting the community and bringing people together. The Ecobricks Project has been instrumental in teaching villagers of all ages how to care for their community, and it has allowed people to collaborate with other community members. We're hoping to see this project continue to grow and to spread education and camaraderie throughout the area.
