Conservation in the Community

Many places in the world, including Uganda, are in desperate need of focused conservation efforts. In the rural parts of the country, there is no trash pick-up, so community members are left to dispose of their waste on their own.  This results in the piling up of trash in the forests and fields; also, some people burn their trash, which leads to the release of dangerous chemicals into the air for the people and animals to breathe.

The Angel Projects' Ecobricks Projects was started as an effort to bring conservation to the Rubuguri community by repurposing trash into environmentally-friendly construction blocks.  Through this program, our organization has been able to teach local community members the importance of caring for their environment and disposing of their trash in a healthy and responsible way.  The community response and engagement in this program have been really encouraging, and members of the local villages help in collecting trash, cleaning it, and creating the ecobricks.  They have also helped with the construction of benches and walls created using the ecobricks.

The most recent design we have been working with is the ecobrick chair, which is not only a great repurposing of garbage but is also very attractive and a effective way of building awareness for the program.  We currently have a surplus of ecobricks, and our plan is to continue to build these chairs for businesses throughout the community in order to continue to spread the word about the Ecobricks Project and the importance of conservation in the Rubuguri area.  We appreciate your partnership and support in helping to purchase supplies and transportation for these chairs in order to help us continue with this important work.
