Food emergency in the Dodougou village

By Licia Allara | Board Member and Volunteer

Dear donors,

you know our relationship with the Dodougou village and the grassroot group of women (Wend-Songda), with which we have been collaborating since years: with your help, we drilled a borehole and equipped it with a Volanta pump, we resumed an old dismantled well to give more water to the growing population.
Now, the village is facing a new challenge.
More and more refugees are coming in the safe Dodougou area, escaping from the regions attacked by Jihad terrorists: mostly women with children, widows, elderly who lost everything. Some of them have no resources at all, not even to cover the most basic needs - food above all.

Given the situation, and as the goal for the original project (Economic Emancipation for 70 Women) was still far to reach, together with Wend-Sondga and the village, was decided to use the funds raised so far to finance a micro project that assure food for 50 refugees, choosen among the most fragiles and in need.

The project aims to buy (now that the prices are good, being close to the harvest) a good amount of primary goods (especially cereal) and stock them. The goods will be then distributed little by little to the 50 beneficiaries, assuring them the survival.
In detail, it will be bought: maize (3 tons), beans (1 ton), rice (1 ton), cooking oil (50lt), soap (200). A stockage space will be rent.

Together with some other dedicated fundraising, this microproject has been completely funded!

A huge thanks to all of you: true that the money raised went to something slightly different from the original project: but it stayed in between the villlage and, most important, went to cover a real, urgent need of women, children and elderly who, otherwise, had risked the very survival.

Happy New Year, warm regards from all the Guardavanti team

Licia Allara
