Happy summer, family and friends! We are excited to share more great developments from the mothers in our economic empowerment programs. We are thankful for the ongoing support and encouragement from all of you and from GlobalGiving, who donated a $6k emergency grant from their East Africa Hunger Relief Fund.
Each of our programs are doing well, especially in Abiy Addi, Tembien, Tigray. A year ago, this group of impoverished women started this project in the hope of supporting their families. Now, one year later, they celebrate their growing small business with happiness!
On their anniversary day, our Tembien mothers shared their developments with us. They have doubled their income within a year by adding various additions to their bread-making business. Their efforts and example inspire hope that they will continue to grow and will aid those in need. With your help, we will continue to work on opening centers in Tigray for the empowerment of impoverished women leading their families, and thereby the community.
In Kolla, Tembien, a severe drought caused widespread water and food shortages, leading to malnourishment, especially among children and the elderly. At least 22 people have died as a direct result of the drought. Thousands of livestock perished and crops have failed, devastating the livelihoods of people in this predominantly agricultural region. All My Sisters is responding to this humanitarian crisis by sending food to affected mothers and children.
Now, we are preparing to open our program’s doors to women in Adi Gudem, Tigray. We have started to train them to use electronic pans for making injera (the staple bread of Ethiopia) and handle their finances through their local bank. The Mayor will help to provide a building for business. After encountering some roadblocks, including a gas shortage limiting transportation, we are working to finalize our program in Adwa as well. With your support and encouragement, we will uplift more mothers in need.
Thank you for your continued support. Together, we can make a difference!
