Destitute and given a chance....

By Catharina van den Bosch | Founder/Director

She sad huddle up between a group of women. Her face was shining, she listened attentively to the trainer who tried to explain some business principles in a very simple language. She tried to take it all in, this was her chance. Oh, she felt it till deep in her soul. This was her time to shine. After the horrible war in which she lost everything, her house and even her husband. Leaving her destitute with 2 children to take care of. She had been so depressed, loosing it all in such a terrible war, the atrocities which happened in her community and now having to live with her 2 children in a camp and being dependent on handouts.

Oh the joy when she was informed that she was one of the selected women to be trained in business skills and given a financial assistance to start a business. Yes, this is what she wanted, she wanted to look after her children, to provide for them so they could go to school. She wanted to make her husband proud. Oh, she was going to work as hard as she could. Start small, get experience and slowly expand. She may not have had a lot of education but her eagerness and willingness to work hard made up for that.

She bought her business materials, set up a small retail shop on the street and started selling. She soared, she knew the sky is the limit, she is selling, she is making profit and she sees her children with a bright future.

She is one of many women Abraham's Oasis is helping. To help the poorest of the poor to escape poverty is so rewarding. It heals the women, it gives them dignity and hope.

Thank you for helping us help!
