Dear friends,
Hope everyone is enjoying the change in weather and scenery brought by this beautiful Fall season. Things are still warm and cozy in our Preschool in Chittagong and we wanted to send over some of this warmth to you.
While our preschool opens the doors to a lifetime of learning for our children, we also like to introduce and strengthen other essential life skills. Due to the lack of access to clean drinking water and proper bathroom facilities, personal hygiene is of paramount importance for these kids. Every year, we observe the Global Handwashing Day. On this day, kids are taught how to wash their hands properly and to maintain basic hygiene. This helps in thwarting spread of diseases such as the common cold or other diseases transmitted through physical contact. The photos that we are sharing certainly convey the children’s excitement!
We also wanted to take this opportunity to introduce you to a precious little preschooler, Naspiya. Here is what Naspiya wanted to share with you:
“My name is Naspiya. I live in Halishahar Trade School Camp in Chittagong. My father woks as a janitor and my mother stays at home with us. My father earns about $70 a month. He has studied till 5th grade. I have five people in my family. My father and mother love me very much. I am the youngest in my family.
I like to play with dolls. My favorite color is pink. I love to eat noodles
My school’s name is OBAT Preschool. I go to school everyday. My class is nicely decorated. My teachers love me and give me candy sometimes. My school has a playground where we play a lot.
Thank you for helping me study!”
Friends, September 27th marked 15 years to the day OBAT was formed as a nonprofit serving the destitute communities in Bangladesh. Fifteen years later, we have over 10,000 students in 60 educational projects. We are grateful to each one of you for creating opportunities for a better future for the thousands of people living in camps. Thank you for standing with us!
