Dear friends,
Hope the valentines in your life are doing well and that you will get to enjoy some special moments with them today. The kids in our educational projects, especially the little ones in the preschools, are the ones who have captured our hearts. Evidently, they are as special to you, as you are ensuring that they receive a sound preschool education. Thank you is all that we can say!
OBAT’s Chittagong preschoolers are having fun as usual and are also learning a good deal, along the way. They recently had a blast at their annual sports day- you can find some photos from the event, in this email.
We would like to introduce to you to little Yesmin- she is one of the many precious children you are helping to defeat poverty through education:
Yesmin would like to grow up to be a teacher so that she can help educate disadvantaged children. She already has such noble aspirations at the tender age of six.
When she was very young, her father left her, leaving her mother to fend for the two of them. This was not an easy task as her mother, Nahid Begum was without a job and they were struggling to survive in the dire poverty stricken camp environment. Nahid started working at a garments factory to earn a living. She did not want the same future for Yesmin and knew how important it was for her to study. She thus met with Rajia Sultana, OBAT’s Chittagong Preschool’s teacher.
Yesmin did really well in the preschool. She attended class regularly and loved to read, write and draw. She attained the first position in her final exams and has actually graduated now onto first grade, which she has started at OBAT’s SB Nagar Elementary School.
In spite of the tough circumstances she is living in, she likes to enjoy her time playing with dolls and loves to eat cake. She misses her dad a lot and wishes he were around for her. The school not only offers her an escape from such unhappy moments but it is also great fun as she really loves to study.
Thank you for making this possible for Yesmin and many others like her. They all send their love to you, piled high, with a special side of warm hugs.
With wholehearted gratitude,
Your OBAT family.
