Empowering young people and addressing problems

By Tina Moira | Project Leader

Using social theatre for addressing youth issues
Using social theatre for addressing youth issues

Dear Supporter,

The Y-Peer programme, introduced into Esther House and two other children’s centres in rural Moldova, has exemplified how positive young people can be amongst themselves and to the wider community.

The most recent Y- Peer workshops have looked at:

-how to identify violent action and how to prevent violence and bullying

-promoting respect and tolerance amongst young people.

-helping teenagers to elaborate their CV and to know secrets of successful interviews for volunteer work, jobs or extracurricular activities in school.

- road safety education.

- using social theatre for addressing health issues and youth problems.

“The Y-Peer program in our village was very beneficial and had a great impact on children at the Centre. Topics discussed here were often not discussed by parents and teachers. Because of this, children may have been shy, but the information received was very well accepted by children who understood how important these things are to their health. We would like this program to continue because, as we have said, children are not very informed about such things, but they are important and necessary. Thanks for working with Y-Peer Moldova.” Manager of a participating Children’s Day Centre.

A couple of contests were also held , one in writing an essay entitled ‘Say thanks to a woman in your life’ and the other involved taking a photo that described to the participants ‘What does a beautiful love relationship look like?’

Some feedback from the young people include:

“I understood how important it is to write a project and to change something in our locality”

“This contest reminded me how much my mum means to me. I gave her the essay and she was crying during reading it. ’’

Thank you for being part of this wonderful project that helps young people, your support makes this possible and we and the young people are forever grateful.
