Restoring Hope Through Education

By VERITE | CORDINATOR

1. Project Background

In the conflict-torn province of North Kivu, D.R. Congo, ongoing violence—particularly linked to the M23 rebellion—has left thousands of children orphaned and displaced. Among them, 80 children in Goma are struggling to survive without access to school or basic supplies.
These children have lost their parents, homes, and in many cases, their sense of hope. For them, school is not just a place to learn—it is a place of safety, healing, and new beginnings.

2. Project Objective

The “Educate 80 War-Orphaned Kids in Congo” project aims to restore access to education for 80 orphaned and displaced children by providing them with complete school kits.
The goal is simple yet vital: help every child continue learning despite hardship, breaking the cycle of poverty and despair.

3. Key Activities

The project focuses on distributing school and hygiene kits to each of the 80 orphaned children.
Each kit includes:

  • 1 durable backpack
  • 10 notebooks
  • Pens, pencils, erasers
  • 1 hygiene kit (soap, sanitary pads for girls)

In addition, children will receive support for school enrollment and regular attendance throughout the academic year.

4. Expected Impact

Educating these children is an investment in peace and sustainable development for the Congo.
The expected outcomes include:

  • Reduced risk of child exploitation or armed group recruitment
  • Improved mental well-being and emotional stability
  • Enhanced literacy, confidence, and life skills
  • Contribution to community rebuilding and long-term resilience

Studies show that educated orphans are 75% less likely to face exploitation.
Through this initiative, 80 young lives will regain the chance to dream and build a brighter future.

5. Project Budget

The total estimated cost of the project is USD 5,000.
This amount covers school materials, logistics, and local coordination.
So far, no funds have been raised, but thanks to our partnership with GlobalGiving, we are confident we will reach our goal.

6. Partnership and Collaboration

Our collaboration with GlobalGiving provides a trusted and transparent platform for international fundraising.
This partnership strengthens the project’s visibility and ensures every donation is used effectively and responsibly, with direct impact on the children’s lives.

7. Call for Support

We extend a heartfelt appeal to individuals, partners, and organizations worldwide:
Together, we can change the lives of these 80 children.
Every contribution, no matter how small, plants a seed of hope in the heart of a child scarred by war.
Your support can turn pain into possibility.

8. Acknowledgements

We express our deep gratitude to everyone who has already shown support—whether moral, financial, or through partnership.
Our sincere thanks to GlobalGiving for their commitment and collaboration.
And to all donors: thank you for believing that every child deserves the right to learn and to dream again.

9. Conclusion

Education is the foundation of a better future.
This project is more than a humanitarian action—it is an act of faith in humanity itself.
Through compassion, solidarity, and collaboration, these 80 children will gain the opportunity to rebuild their lives, their future, and their country.

Together, let us make education the light that dispels the darkness of war.
