St Martins School - End of Term 1 2026 Update.

By Alfred Muheria Aswan | Program Liaison

Greetings from St. Martin's School.

We have had a good term, and we are grateful for the far that we have come thanks to your continued support. It has been a good term full of activities for our children and staff.

Key Milestones are:

Overview: Term 1 had 14 weeks of learning, and all the 923 students in primary and the 107 in secondary school have been able to attend classes during this period. The Long November-December holiday is always challenging for most of our children in the slum because their environment is not conducive to learning, nor is there structured learning for the children while at home. Despite this, most of them reported back to school. Our students sat their mid-term and end-of-term examinations, and they have performed well, though there is still room to improve in Maths and science subjects.

Co-curricular Activities: Term 1 was full of curricular activities in Sports, Music, and Ball games. 200 students participated in various disciplines at the Zonal, Subcounty, and regional levels. The commitment, hours of practice, and the excitement that comes with working as a team to be the best, being in an environment that is different from the class, meeting students from other schools, and actually competing against them, help to motivate and build the students' confidence and reflect positively on their academic performance.

Athletics and Field events:  Our students participated in Athletics and field events. The demands of this discipline on the physical, mental, and emotional consistency are key in helping one perform to their level best. And at the different levels, our students did not disappoint.

  • Cross Country - 1 student qualified
  • 400 meters, we had one student
  • Triple Jump, we had one student

We are extremely proud of the achievements of the students and the commitment of their teachers in helping them to represent the school at the highest levels.

Basketball: Our basketball teams participated in multiple competitive levels this term. The experience of facing schools from across the region has sharpened our players’ skills and built the kind of team chemistry

Music Competition:  our Music team competed in the Catholic Private Education Institutions Association (CAPEIA) music competition and emerged as the best team at the regional level. This is more than a trophy. This is a testament to hours of rehearsal, to the passion of our music teachers, and to the natural gift that our students carry. They performed with heart, with precision, and with the kind of joy that only music can produce.

Innovation Spotlight: The Smart Recycling Bin

Our students’ participation in a Science and Technology Fair. Our young innovators entered the fair with a project that drew admiration from judges: an electronically-controlled recycling bin capable of sorting trash automatically.

The project is a remarkable demonstration of what our students are capable of when they are given the space to think, create, and solve real-world problems. The team designed, built, and presented a device that uses electronic sensors to separate different categories of waste — a concept that speaks directly to environmental sustainability and the needs of our community.

End-of-Term Celebrations

We believe that a happy child learns better. That is why, at the close of Term 1, we held a school-wide Fun Day to celebrate the students’ hard work and resilience throughout the term. The Fun Day was a moment of laughter, play, and togetherness. Children who had given so much in classrooms and on fields were given the gift of pure, unstructured joy. It was a fitting send-off before the break, and the smiles on their faces were all the confirmation we needed that it was absolutely the right thing to do.

Looking Ahead: Term 2

School reopens on Monday, 28th April 2026, marking the beginning of Term 2. We look forward to sharing another set of stories with you when Term 2 comes to a close.

On behalf of our 923 students, our staff, and every family that trusts us with their children, we say thank you. Your generosity is felt in every classroom, every practice session, and every competition where our children stand tall and represent what is possible when people like you decide to make a difference.

We are building something extraordinary — together.

Thank you,

St. Martin's School
