Educate a visually challenged child for one year

The subject of blindness and education has included evolving approaches and public perceptions of how best to address the special needs of blind students. The practice of institutionalizing the blind in asylums has a history extending back over a thousand years. Indian Association for the Blind (lAB), based in South India and are a well-known non-profit organization working to provide education, employment, training and rehabilitation for the visually challenged from rural areas. Late Mr. S.M.A.Jinnah, the visually challenged activist and a group of like-minded visually challenged people founded IAB in 1985. Since its inception, IAB has educated and rehabilitated more than 19420 visually challenged children and youths mainly from rural areas of Tamil Nadu. Our students of grade 12 who appeared for their board exams have once again proved their hard work and dedication in achieving 100% result. Also, this is a hat-trick in achieving centum results. We are so happy to share this great news with the philanthropists through GlobalGiving. Kudos to the students and teachers who made this possible. Great thanks to the supporters and well-wishers of IAB who are behind the success of these kids. Through GlobalGiving we gained numerous donors across the world and this leads to raising our fund through $15,431 by 212 Philanthropists. We feel so grateful for the tremendous increase in the funds which we can utilize to literate numerous kids. Our institution is providing vocational and adaptive training, as well as grounding in academic subjects offered through special formats. A combination of necessary training tailored to the unique needs of each student, and solid academics, is going a long way towards producing blind and visually impaired students capable of dealing with the world independently. So, we look forward to raising more for this cause. Most blind and visually impaired students now attend their neighborhood schools, often aided in their educational pursuits by regular teachers of academics and by a team of professionals who train them in alternative skills: Orientation and Mobility (O and M) training - instruction in independent travel - is usually taught by contractors educated in that area, as is Braille. In the absence of those teachers, visually challenged will undergo severe difficulties in their future building. Since its inception, IAB has educated and rehabilitated more than 23700 visually challenged children and youths mainly from rural areas of Tamil Nadu mainly with the support of Philanthropic efforts through GlobalGiving. Blind children may also need special training in understanding spatial concepts, and in self-care, as they are often unable to learn visually and through imitation as other children do. Moreover, home economics and education dealing with anatomy are necessary for children with severe visual impairments. We look forward to raising more for this cause.
