Despite the difficult context of violence and criminality in the country and in our neighborhoods (where some of the criminal gangs are persecuted by the State) we started 2024 with impetus and convinced that our work is for a healthier and happier childhood. Your contribution is allowing us to teach more than 200 mothers to guide the development and early education of their children at home, when between 600 and 900 thousand Ecuadorian children do not have any type of care, child development or early education service.
We are already halfway through the year and we can see the first fruits of our family accompaniment: the children are developing their cognitive and social skills, the women - in the workshops - are already daring to share their experiences and concerns, they support and recognize each other in the neighborhood; and there is also an evolution of healthy habits: the percentages of children and parents (from 41% to 96%) that already demonstrate hygiene and nutrition habits have increased. We have already had our first integration outing to the Equinoccial Metropolitan Park with many green areas and playgrounds; and every month, we celebrate our children's birthdays with the contribution of each mother. Beyond each specific area, they are all signs of the growth of self-esteem, for their children, for their fellow men.
We also want to tell you that we had a Christmas full of very significant gestures of support, solidarity and union: in December, through a collaboration agreement with the Universidad Particular Internacional SEK, the master students of Psychology have already started actions of prevention and care and prevention of violence and addictions, providing 2 workshops in which our mothers learned to recognize warning signs and share their concerns.
In addition, we were able to provide Christmas food baskets to all the children so that they could have a decent Christmas Eve dinner with their families. But this delivery was very special as it was done in the framework of a community baptism of 100 children organized with the support of the local parish. With this event, we made all these families not only celebrate and share together, but also evoke their tradition by watching a Nativity Scene represented by young people from our Youth Center and thus revive the values of these festivities: family unity, community, sense of belonging, which are so necessary to rebuild the social fabric of these neighborhoods.
With all these facts, is how -together with you- we are rebuilding a better society, a better Ecuador.
Thank you!
