Educate and Empower 400 PLWD as Leaders in Nigeria

By Daniel Newton Obaka | President/Project Leader

Educate and Empower 400 PLWD as Leaders in Nigeria.

As we prepare for our next GlobalGiving’s Little by Little in September 2023, and also looking forward to the Giving Tuesday events of 2023, we wish to express our heart- felt joy for being invited to partner with one of the financial institutions (Sterling Bank) to drive “Amira and Friends Edutainment” product, targeting our out-of-school children in the vulnerable communities. Many of these out-of-school children include our STEP’s long-term target group of potential future leaders (adolescent/young adults PLWD. The “Amira and Friend Edutainment” is the Bank’s creative approach to an innovative out-of-school learning for children in the rural communities to address the educational challenges in Nigeria. Sterling Bank plans to invest in support of a sustainable educational platform to reach the more than 20 million Nigerians out-of-school children in Nigeria.

The first pilot outing as organized by GIEVA Organization, brought together 87 out- of -school children, comminity leaders, and parents to watch animated educational program in both local and Pidgin English languages. The community and the children are looking forward to having a permanent arrangement to address the out-of-school issue.

The GIEVA organization is excited to know that a financial institution saw the value of the STEP’s PLWD long term strategic educational project and invited our organization to drive the Amira and Friends Edutainment product with the view of expanding supports for the education of the vulnerable children in Nigeria. As part of our long-term mission, GIEVA aims that in the next 10 years, “Educate and Empower 400 PLWD as Leaders in Nigeria” would have provided a threshold leadership platform for PLWD to be self-dependent.

To enhance basic structure for the sustainable support of the STEP long-term project, we have successfully formed a consortium with three other organizations – Colab, Computer Science Department of the University of Jos, and Zeus Tech to design and develop effective use of Generative AI in the education of the out of school children in Nigeria.

Our November 2023 Giving Tuesday Program is being planned to hold in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria to involve state government relevant agencies, and NGO. our newly consortium group of AI technical experts, researchers, and some interested philanthropists will also participate in the GIEVA Tuesday program of 2023.

Following the deepening interest in the STEP’s PLWD Project long-term plan we continue to refine our process to identify PLWD adolescent/young adults with academic, leadership, & artistic talents to support in their academic objectives. We are delighted to report that Ebenezer Chris Ajah, the Director of the Elizer Technical Services, Nigeria, our strategic training, and mentoring partner is attending a 5-week TechWomen professional mentorship program, September 29-October 30, 2023, Chicago, USA. The TechWomen program is an initiative of the US Department of State’s Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs. This development will strengthen the mentorship elements of our PLWD education relevant programs and to have access to the CHOICES-STEM Academy program – a 12- 18-month STEM related programs that connect them to internships, networks of entrepreneurs, and innovators.

GlobalGiving continues to provide us with essential resources and webinar training materials to engage and garner supports globally for a worthy Cause. We look forward to a deeper relationship as we identify, mobilize, and select gifted adolescent persons with disabilities to be part of this transformative long-term journey.
