By Benard Odour | Manager, Rathithi Polytechnic
Rathithi Polytechnic recently held elections for their student council. The student council serves to represent students, manage student affairs, and serve as a bridge between the student body and the institution’s administration.
Rathithi Polytechnic continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to leadership development, recognizing that technical education must be paired with strong managerial and interpersonal skills. Following the election, the newly elected council members underwent a leadership training program to equip the student leaders with the necessary tools to effectively navigate their roles.
Key areas of the training included:
· Effective Communication: Learning to articulate ideas clearly between students and faculty.
· Team Management: Strategies for delegating tasks and motivating peers.
· Problem-Solving: Techniques for addressing student grievances constructively.
A central focus of this initiative is to bridge the gap between leadership and management. By providing structured training, the institution aims to transform elected student representatives from figureheads into effective managers who can plan, organize, and execute initiatives while demonstrating strong and ethical leadership qualities.
Through the combination of democratic elections and focused leadership training, Rathithi Polytechnic is effectively cultivating a culture of responsibility and proactive governance among its students. This approach ensures that student leaders are not only elected based on popularity but are also equipped with the practical skills required to lead successfully.
