We are grateful for your continued support with our work. Between January and April 2026, your contributions helped us continue strengthening resilience, education, peacebuilding, and opportunities for vulnerable communities in northern Kenya.

Launch of the RECAP Project

HODI launched the Resilient Borders: Advancing Climate Adaptation, Peace, Livelihood and Preparedness in Cross-Border Communities of Kenya and Ethiopia (RECAP} project.

The project will strengthen climate resilience, sustainable livelihoods, peacebuilding, and preparedness among vulnerable border communities along the Kenya–Ethiopia border. The project responds to the growing impact of climate change, recurring drought, resource-based conflicts, and economic vulnerability affecting pastoralist communities in the region.

Through RECAP, communities will benefit from integrated approaches that promote peace, strengthen local livelihoods, improve preparedness, and support long-term resilience. Over the next three years, the project aims to directly reach 12,773 people across the two countries.

As part of the project startup phase, HODI successfully onboarded and trained 11 community volunteers. Recruiting volunteers helps strengthen local ownership and sustainbility of the project.

The volunteers also received orientation on safeguarding, community engagement, and project implementation approaches to support inclusive delivery.

Creating Safe Spaces Through Football

HODI also continued implementing the Shoot to Score project with support from the FIFA Foundation and GlobalGiving partners.

The project uses football as a tool to promote skills, protection, gender equality, and inclusion for children and youth. The project seeks to create safe spaces where girls and boys can learn, play freely, build confidence, and remain protected from abuse and other forms of harm.

In 2026, the project will work with four public schools, reaching children with structured football activities and mentorship skills that encourage teamwork, leadership, confidence, and peaceful coexistence.

Education

Education remains one of the most important pathways for transforming lives and protecting vulnerable children from long-term poverty and exclusion and is one of HODI’s key approaches.

During the reporting period, HODI has supported three vulnerable students through funds raised through GlobalGiving towards the students’ first-term tuition fees to help the learners remain in school and continue their education.

Strengthening Women’s Economic Resilience ThroughQusanno

The village groups maintained regular monthly meetings with active participation from members, supporting collective accountability. These meetings also provided safe spaces for members to discuss community challenges, household needs, and economic opportunities.

Between January and March 2026, members collectively saved Ksh 86,200, demonstrating strong commitment to improving their financial resilience and supporting one another through community-based savings mechanisms.

Loan activities also remained active during the reporting period, with Ksh 37,400 disbursed to members to support small businesses, household needs, and other priorities. At the same time, groups successfully recovered Ksh 143,700 in loan repayments, reflecting responsible borrowing.

These community-led savings continue to play an important role in helping women strengthen household resilience, cope with economic shocks, and improve their livelihoods.

Thank You

Your support continues to create meaningful change in the lives of vulnerable children, women and communities in northern Kenya.

On behalf of the communities we serve, thank you for standing with our communities in northern Kenya.
