Educate Children & Empower Youths in a Lagos Slum

CCI’s goal for 2023 is to expand our education assistance program by providing full-tuition scholarships to academically qualified students in our current host slum community who otherwise would not have the chance to attend university or earn a degree. In addition, we inspire curiosity in children and open their minds to learning; helping them see the world through reading. 

 Mobile Library Project:

Our Mobile Library project is aimed at Educating, Captivating, and Inspiring children through the instrumentality of books. With no public library or any other access to books, our mobile library will grant children in the community access to reading books to inspire their curiosity and open their minds to learning and seeing the world beyond their circumstances. With your generous support, we have purchased a mini vehicle which is currently being reconstructed into a library with bookshelves and we have already purchased boxes of books. In addition to our purchase, we have also received generous donations of gently used children’s books. This summer, we will open our mobile library and productively engage our community’s children with a fun and rewarding reading program.

 Education Assistance Program

We have commenced a scholarship programme to help promising underprivileged youths in our underserved community acquire a university education. Six students are currently participating in our Bridge the Gap initiative, where CCI supports them through JAMB (a standardised university admission exam) registration and preparation. If successful and offered admission, CCI is committed to facilitating sponsorships through our Adopt a Student initiative to cover full tuition and fees for up to four years. We have provided scholarships to two students with admission offers and have met our scholarship application requirements. We are excited to report that the first year’s funding has been disbursed. Also, we have continued to support over 300 primary school children with the essential resourses and supplies they need for the entire school year.

Our Impact

With these new initiatives we have taken two young people off the streets to university, and six more are currently underway. As a result of our interventions, children in our host community are motivated to learn as they see a glimpse of hope, believing that they can be whatever they aspire to be, irrespective of their socio-economic status, if they set their minds to it and leverage the opportunities available to them through CCI. In addition, our mentorship programme inspires our teenagers and young adults to dream big. Ultimately, we empower young people educationally and economically, contributing to ending the cycle of poverty.
