Overview
Alabaster International successfully implemented an education support initiative to provide essential school supplies to 5128 students across multiple schools in Leer County, South Sudan. The project aimed to strengthen learning continuity amid ongoing instability and economic hardship, ensuring that children, many of whom are displaced or living in conflict-affected areas, can continue their education with dignity and hope.
Implementation
The initiative distributed complete school supply kits that included exercise books, pens, pencils, erasers and other basic learning materials. Distribution was conducted in coordination with local education officials and community leaders to ensure equitable reach and transparency. Despite logistical challenges due to flooding and insecurity, local volunteers and teachers played a vital role in organizing the distribution events safely and efficiently.
Impact
5128 students equipped with essential learning materials.
Improved attendance and classroom participation reported by teachers.
Renewed motivation and morale among students returning to school after displacement.
Strengthened community trust in education as a pathway to peace and stability.
Next Steps
Building on this success, Alabaster International plans to expand the program to additional schools in 2026, integrating reading and peace-building modules and linking students to tree-planting and youth empowerment activities under the Roots & Wings program.
