We are thrilled to share an inspiring conversation between Cynthia, a Women’s Global Education Project scholar attending university in rural Kenya, and Abi Daré, bestselling author of The Girl with the Louding Voice! In her debut novel, Ms. Daré tells the story of Adunni, a teenage girl growing up in a rural Nigerian village who longs to get an education so that she can find her “louding voice” and speak up for herself!
Adunni’s passion for her education mirrors the real-world resilience of Cynthia and the 200+ adolescent girls that WGEP supports with comprehensive school scholarships and health education programming across Tharaka-Nithi county, Kenya. Cynthia is studying public relations and diplomacy at Mt. Kenya University, and dreams of becoming a writer and spoken word poet!
We hope you enjoy the conversation, featuring a powerful spoken word poem, titled The Girl with No Voice, written and performed by Cynthia! You can watch the video here, and we recommend buying The Girl with The Louding Voice from your local bookstore.
Thank you for believing in the power of girls’ education.
