A dream come true!

By Walter Banegas | Program Coordinator

Out of respect for the privacy of the actors in the story, they changed their real names.

The dream of many children is to learn to read and write, this was Jorge's dream since he had reason.

Education in the region where Jorge lives presents many obstacles; Teachers with little or no preparation to work with children with educational barriers, few educational resources for teaching, multi-grade classrooms, etc.

Jorge presented problems of learning, motivation and self-esteem, a situation that makes it difficult to learn to read and write. Failure to make progress in the child's development made his mother feel sad and discouraged.

Jorge's mother in desperation to help her son sought help and integrated it into the special education and health program of the Cangrejal basin, which is promoted by the Un Mundo organization through the parents' association. It was here that he began with a psychological and educational evaluation to identify the causes and effects in the child, and to make an individual educational plan (IEP), which was developed between the psychologist, special educator, school teacher and parent, Making a comprehensive plan.

Today Jorge reads and writes to perfection, and helps the rest of his classmates with their homework, and literacy to their parents.

Dreams come true when one strives to achieve it, and Jorge with his mother can boast of this. Happiness came to their hearts with this achievement, and they inspire other children with educational and physical barriers.

"Thanks to the Health and Special Education program promoted by Un Mundo, I can now read and write well. Today I can say that I achieved one more goal in my life". Jorge
