Girl Power Africa is a small but mighty organization and depends on individual donors for sponsorship of Liberian children to attend school. For a mere $110, students can attend school with all of their expenses paid from grade K-12. Advancement in the school is dependent on progress of the student and not age as many do not get admitted to school until they are 9-10 years old.
This year we are sponsoring 585 children, both boys and girls, in school. They receive their education, school supplies, school uniforms, basic essentials such as underwear (which many children have never had), and medical evaluations and vaccines. We were heading into our last day of recruting sponsors and still had 150 studemts on the waiting list who had attended school last year but who were not yet sponsored. After much social media activity and live broadcasts from our founder, Bulleh Bablitch-Norkeh, one donor came through with a donation to fund the remaining 150 children. It was indeed a miracle.
There is nothing more heartbreaking than having to let children know that they were not responsored for no fault of their own. e graduate 8-12 a year so openings are scarce for new students. It is increasingly difficult to fund current students with economic pressures faced by many worldwide.
