Keeping Orphaned Children in School During Economic Hardship
The rising cost of living continues to place enormous pressure on vulnerable families in rural Uganda. Many orphaned children are at risk of dropping out of school because guardians struggle to afford school fees, uniforms, and educational materials. During this reporting period, our project focused on ensuring that orphaned children remained in school despite these financial challenges.
With the generous support of GlobalGiving donors, we provided educational assistance to vulnerable learners, covering tuition fees and supplying essential scholastic materials. This support enabled children to continue their studies without interruption and reduced the burden on guardians who often care for multiple dependents.
Teachers reported that supported students demonstrated greater consistency in attendance and improved participation in classroom activities. Many children who had previously missed lessons due to lack of fees were able to return to school and catch up with their peers. The intervention also boosted students' confidence and motivation to learn.
Community leaders and guardians expressed gratitude for the assistance, noting that education remains one of the most effective ways to break the cycle of poverty. Several parents reported that children were spending more time studying and less time engaged in income-generating activities that often interfere with education.
As we continue this work, we remain committed to ensuring that no child is denied an education because of poverty. Thank you for helping us provide hope, opportunity, and a brighter future for orphaned children across rural Uganda.
