Strengthening Educational Support for Grandparent-Led Households
Many orphaned children in rural Uganda are raised by elderly grandparents who often struggle to meet educational expenses. During this quarter, our project focused on supporting these vulnerable households to ensure children remained in school.
Through GlobalGiving donor support, educational assistance was provided to children living with grandparents. School fees, uniforms, and learning materials were supplied, reducing financial pressure on caregivers and enabling children to continue their education.
Home visits revealed the immense sacrifices grandparents make to care for orphaned grandchildren despite limited resources. Many rely on small-scale farming or informal labor to support their families. The educational support provided through this project offered significant relief and strengthened household stability.
Teachers reported positive changes among beneficiaries, including improved attendance and stronger academic performance. Students demonstrated increased motivation and enthusiasm for learning because they no longer worried about being sent home for unpaid fees.
Grandparents expressed gratitude for the assistance and shared how it renewed their hope for the children's future. They emphasized that education is the greatest gift they can provide despite their financial challenges.
The project continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable families. Thank you for helping us support grandparent-led households and keep orphaned children in school.
