Giving Tuesday is coming up on 28 November and GlobalGiving is giving away $1.2 million in bonus funds!!
The more money we raise that day through donations to our projects, the greater our share of the bonus funds.
Can you help us by donating on Tuesday 28th November?
The Bon Children’s Welfare Center (BCWC) cares for and educates Bon children from the Himalayan regions. The aim of the center is to provide these children with the opportunity to fulfill their potential, and become independent adults with the skills necessary to succeed in the modern world.
“We want to see all the children happy, to understand themselves and the world and to learn. We believe that self-awareness helps people make the right decisions as they face challenges in the future. Knowing your strengths and weaknesses helps you choose the right path in life. We tell every child here that we are all unique and we are neither better nor less than anybody else but rather the best or least of ourselves.”
The approach taken at the center is holistic, viewing all aspects of the child as needing care and education. School work is central but sport, spirituality, psychological support and cultural education is also important. An example of cultural education is traditional Bon poetry which is taught and students enter regional competitions in poetry composition, poetry recitation and debate. The youth learn about their heritage and identity which gives them self- confidence and contributes to their sense of their place in the world.
Thank you for your support and interest in the education of Bon youth.
