Dear Friends,
The children living and studying at the Bon Center are divided into four houses. There is friendly competition between the houses both in sports, activities and academics. The children study and enter contests in Tibetan and English languages including, writing poetry, recitation, calligraphy, essay writing, quiz competitions and acting. The sports competitions include, basketball, cricket and ping pong. The students also compete on district, state and national levels.
The center makes every effort to support and encourage students to go onto further study and there are more than 20 students studying in different universities, colleges, vocational training centers and schools. Former students return to the center to visit and maintain relationships with other students and staff.
Other news from 2015, includes the completion of a new building for the nuns and female students consisting of 18 bedrooms where 30 females can stay. There is also room for a doctor to stay on site as needed. One student commented on life at the center saying, “Hostel life is disciplined life which improves character and promotes understanding between students. We learn a sense of responsibility in taking care of our belongings and health which makes us independent. Children from different backgrounds learn collectively more about their diverse society.”
Please read the attached 2015 Newsletter for information on CHI activities last year.
