CULTURAL SUMMER CAMP FOR CHILDREN OF A COMMUNITY
From July 27 to August 7, Fundación Comunitaria Don Diego held a completely free summer vacation course, designed especially for children in the community who normally don't have access to this type of activity, since it is a low-income community and mothers often have to go to work and leave their children alone.
Children and young people spend long hours on the street without supervision, which exposes them to various risks: insecurity and violence, with greater exposure to robbery, assault, or witnessing violent events in their surroundings. Contact with risky behavior, including the possibility of encountering groups that use or promote drug and alcohol use at an early age. Accidents, from being left alone. Child exploitation, as in some cases, unsupervised children are more vulnerable to abuse.
During school vacations, many children from the Don Diego community are left on their own because their parents have to go to work. The summer course not only kept them away from these dangers, but also provided, safe, and enriching space for learning and fun. At the same time, it offered essential support to parents, who could go to work with the peace of mind that their children were in good hands.
The summer course was full of joy, smiles, and learning in a healthy environment, thanks to the support of various associations that joined this initiative: the Toy Museum, where the children learned to make a catrina figure. Cine Club, with whom they made a short film. Casa Europa, which donated a puppet show for the little ones. Ballet Folklórico, where the children took dance classes.
