International Day of Education- Changing Course, Transforming Education

By Amy M Baty-Herbert | Project Coordinator

Project Supporters,

January 24th is the International Day of Education with the theme of Changing Course, Transforming Education. This year’s International Day of Education will be a platform to showcase the most important transformations that have to be nurtured to realize everyone’s fundamental right to education and build a more sustainable, inclusive, and peaceful futures https://www.un.org/en/observances/education-day

Education is a proven way to alleviate poverty and bring lasting change.

Of all regions, sub-Saharan Africa has the highest rates of education exclusion. Over one-fifth of children between the ages of about 6 and 11 are out of school, followed by one-third of youth between the ages of about 12 and 14. According to UIS data, almost 60% of youth between the ages of about 15 and 17 are not in school. Without urgent action, the situation will likely get worse as the region faces a rising demand for education due to a still-growing school-age population. UNESCO

Providing quality education to the future leaders in Sierra Leone is helping them to rise above poverty, become independent and better decision-makers.  It brings lasting empowerment and definite change.  Your support helped 162 students start or stay in school in 2021.  In 2022, our goal is to support 300 students.

Our recurring donors are making a continuous impact, which provides consistent educational support to students in Sierra Leone. If you are not yet a recurring donor, we warmly invite you to consider setting up a recurring donation.

Even a few dollars a month will go a long way to achieving the goal of supporting 300 students in Sierra Leone in 2022.

Please also share this with your contacts and invite them to consider supporting this ongoing project.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at GlobalGiving@developafrica.org.

With great appreciation,

Amy and the Develop Africa team
