Diamonds Sometimes Come From Single-Parent Homes

By Sylvester Renner | Project Leader

Happy Bo students - receiving scholarships

Many of our beneficiaries are raised by single parents, who often face financial hardships.  In Sierra Leone, 25% of children under the age of 15 come from single-parent homes (source here

Our Program Manager, Mr. Abu Conteh, met with our beneficiaries and their parents in September. While the purpose of the gathering was to distribute tuition fees for the upcoming term, it was also an opportunity to connect and engage.

Mr. Conteh recounted the inspiring story of a world-renowned neurosurgeon, Dr. Ben Carson, who a single mother raised. Although she was illiterate, she encouraged her son to focus on his reading assignments. Mr. Conteh narrated how her constant support led to her son’s future success.

Today, we are excited and confident that we are similarly helping to raise exceptional leaders.

The kids that we are supporting are diamonds in the rough. Uncut and unpolished.

With your support, deserving kids can advance and complete their education.

With your support, they will become exceptional leaders and world-class diamonds.

In Sierra Leone, a lack of funds is one of the leading educational barriers, with children from marginalized communities affected the most (source: here). Scholarships are, therefore, in high demand, with long waiting lists.

Making a monthly donation is the most effective way to help our emerging diamonds get their education, but every dollar donated makes a difference!

If you are not yet a recurring donor, please consider signing up for a recurring donation here. Your monthly donations make a world of difference to hundreds of children daily. With your help, we can create a brighter tomorrow.

Thank you so much for your amazing generosity,

Sylvester and the Develop Africa team
