Proficiency in computers is an absolute requirement for success in today's technology-driven environment. Unfortunately, traditional schools and colleges in many African nations lack adequate computer vocational education and facilities.
Develop Africa is dedicated to helping change the landscape by providing basic computer training to children and youth in Africa. The Develop Africa Sierra Leone (DASL) Computer lab set up in Freetown, is one such example where students get to learn, train and skill themselves with hands-on experience.
The computer lab classes are run in batches to allow the maximum number of students to attend the computer classes, which is currently one class in the morning and two classes in the afternoon from Monday to Friday. The students are at varying levels in their computer training, which includes Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft Access, Microsoft PowerPoint, and typing Master class.
These days most people have easy access to computers and laptops, and thus learn typing pretty quickly. But for those people for whom a computer is a luxury and available only for an hour or so in a day, learning plain simple typing is a big deal. Typing Master provided by Develop Africa at these computer labs does just that. It provides complete instructional keyboarding for our trainees from basic to professional fast touch-typing. It also helps them to improve their typing speed and accuracy in a comfortable way.
Equipped with the latest technology skills, the youth of Africa at least get a level playing field while competing with the youth of other countries. And all this has been possible thanks to donors, like you, who support Develop Africa’s educational initiatives.
Making a monthly donation is the most effective way to help prepare these future leaders, but every dollar donated makes a difference! If you haven't had the chance to sign up for a recurring donation yet, we warmly welcome your ongoing support.
Please share this project with your contacts and invite them to consider supporting this ongoing project. If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at GlobalGiving@developafrica.org.
