Mentoring Session on Public Relations- Cultivating & Maintaining Relationships

By Amy Baty-Herbert | Project Coordinator

Public Relations was the topic at a recent mentoring session that was attended by 50 students.  Thanks to the ongoing support from donors like you, each of the attendees received transportation to the mentoring session and lunch.

The guest speaker is presently the public relations officer in the State House and he spoke about the practice, importance, and also the benefits of being a public relations officer. For them to get more understanding of the topic, he defined public relations as a practice that cultivates and maintains relationships.

He listed some of the functions of public relations officers including:

  • Reputation management
  • Media Relations
  • Content creation
  • Event planning and
  • Crisis communication

He also mentioned some of the tools he uses in his public relations position including:

  • Press release/Public notice
  • Newspaper
  • Social media
  • Speeches and
  • Interviews

To sum up the session, the beneficiaries asked questions and spoke about the important things they learned from the guest speaker's teachings on public relations and were grateful for his time and effort.

The speaker ended by saying that he is privileged and very happy to talk to young people about the topic and promised them that he would be available to discuss public relations further with anyone who was interested.

We deeply appreciate your ongoing support, as it enables us to conduct more mentoring sessions and provide educational resources to the future leaders of Sierra Leone. If you haven't already, we warmly welcome your continued support through a recurring donation. We also encourage you to share this project with your contacts and invite them to consider supporting this valuable initiative.
