Project Report | Dec 11, 2024
Empowering Futures Through Technology

By Amy Baty-Herbert | Project Leader

The graduation of Develop Africa’s Computer Learning Initiative marked a monumental step in their personal and professional growth. This special occasion was filled with gratitude, pride, and a renewed sense of purpose as students celebrated their achievements.  They expressed their appreciation to the organization for the life-changing skills they gained in this video.

Kulaku, one of the graduates, eloquently captured the sentiments of the class, reflecting on the transformation journey they experienced. “Before coming to the computer school, we had no skills to be proud of,” he shared. “But today, I can say we can go out there to the world market and seek employment because Develop Africa has given us so much to be proud of.”

Similarly, Jane, another graduate, shared her inspiring story of starting the program without any knowledge of computers. “When I started, I didn’t even know how to turn on a computer,” she admitted. “Now, I can switch on the computer, create folders, type documents, save files, and do much more. Today is my happiest day as I receive my certificate, and I am truly proud.”

The program manager, Abu, emphasized the significance of this achievement, especially for young adults. “What you have gained here, combined with other certifications be it BECE, be it WASSCE, diploma or first degrees, adds great value to your future,” he remarked.

Acknowledging the challenges faced by the students, he highlighted the institution’s commitment to affordability and quality. “We’ve kept our prices minimal while providing outstanding service in a conducive environment. Do well and succeed—I wish you all the best.”

The graduates united in their appreciation and expressed their heartfelt thanks to Develop Africa. Their collective gratitude resounded with the words, “Thank you, Develop Africa!”

This graduation ceremony not only showcased the technical skills acquired by the students but also underscored the broader mission of Develop Africa—to empower individuals, open doors to opportunities, and contribute to a brighter future for all.

As we celebrate these achievements, we extend our sincere gratitude to all our donors and supporters for their ongoing commitment to empowering the youth of Sierra Leone. Your investment in these students is an investment in the future of their communities and the country as a whole.

With heartfelt appreciation,
Amy & the Develop Africa Team
