Educating Future Leaders Through Computer Literacy

By Amy Baty-Herbert | Project Leader

Thank you for your continued support in helping us educate and empower young people with the computer skills they need to succeed in school, the workplace, and in life.

Recently, our Program Manager, Mr. Emeka K., held an inspiring and interactive session with students enrolled in the Microsoft Office training program at the Develop Africa Computer School. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as students shared their dreams and reasons for joining the program.

One student said, “I want to become a secretary in the future, and I know Microsoft Office is important for office work.” Another explained, “I want to open a small business and be able to type documents and create invoices on my own.”

Mr. Emeka encouraged them by reminding them that in today’s digital world, computer literacy is no longer optional—it’s essential. He shared his own journey of starting with no computer knowledge and how learning basic programs like Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint helped shape his career. His message was clear: with determination and practice, these skills can open doors to employment, entrepreneurship, and lifelong opportunities.

The students eagerly engaged, asking questions such as “How long would it take to become good at computers?”, “Which Microsoft Office application is most important for getting a job?”, and “Can I use these skills to work online from home?”

Mr. Emeka’s thoughtful answers and encouragement left them motivated and determined to keep learning. He closed by reminding the students: “Develop Africa is not just a school—it is a platform for your future. Stay focused, help each other, and never stop learning.”

On behalf of all the students and staff at Develop Africa, thank you for believing in the next generation of leaders. Together, we are transforming lives through education.

With gratitude,
Amy & the Develop Africa team
