We are excited to share a major milestone in our Year of the Pencil initiative. Thanks to your generosity, the Develop Africa Sierra Leone team has successfully packed all 100,000 pencils into 10,000 learning pouches, each one labeled with its designated school and ready for distribution.
This achievement reflects true community effort. Throughout the week, DASL staff, Computer Studies students, and sponsorship beneficiaries worked side by side—carefully counting, sorting, and organizing every pencil.
A couple of our beneficiaries shared how meaningful it was to contribute:
Mbalu shared, “I am happy to be part of the counting team. Each day we count, I feel proud knowing these pencils will support other students like me.”
Fatmata said, “Being part of this activity makes me feel responsible and connected to DASL’s mission.”
Tomorrow, November 20th, at 9:30 am Sierra Leone time (4:30 am Eastern Time), our Sierra Leone team will distribute all 10,000 learning pouches to 20 schools across Sierra Leone, in one coordinated effort.

Thousands of students will receive the tools they need to write, learn, and dream bigger. Thank you for standing with these children and fueling their dreams.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Amy & the Develop Africa Team
