Excitement & Gratitude: Abdulrahman Shares his Experience

The Year of the Pencil distribution brought unforgettable joy and opportunity to students across Sierra Leone.  One of our volunteers, Abdulrahman, shared his moving experience at Kingtom Police Infant Primary School, where the welcome was nothing short of heartwarming.

From the moment the team arrived, the head teacher and staff greeted them with excitement and gratitude. The students, filled with joy, celebrated by singing a beautiful welcome song that set the tone for a truly special day.  As the pencils were distributed, smiles filled the classroom. When the last pencil was placed into a child’s hand, the students gathered once again to sing—this time as a joyful “thank you.” Teachers and pupils alike expressed their appreciation, sharing how meaningful these simple tools are for learning and participation.

In total, 426 students at Kingtom Police Infant Primary School received pencils—each one opening the door to greater confidence, engagement, and opportunity in the classroom.

Your support during the Year of the Pencil initiative did more than provide school supplies. It delivered encouragement, dignity, and the belief that every child matters and deserves the tools to succeed.

As we approach the end of 2025, we are reminded that your continued generosity has the power to shape a child’s educational journey.

Thank you for standing with students across Sierra Leone—and for transforming lives, one pencil at a time.

With heartfelt gratitude,
Amy & the Develop Africa Team
