Across Sierra Leone, unreliable electricity remains a major barrier to education. In many communities, frequent power outages and limited grid access prevent students from studying after sunset. Without adequate lighting, children are unable to complete homework, revise lessons, or prepare for examinations—placing them at risk of falling behind academically.
Solar lights provide a practical, cost-effective solution to this challenge. These lights offer safe, reliable, and long-lasting illumination for households with little or no access to electricity, enabling students to extend learning hours beyond daylight. For many learners, access to solar lighting directly improves study consistency, academic performance, and school retention.
Through the generous support of donors like you, students like Balusa are now able to study at home despite ongoing power disruptions. With her solar light, Balusa can complete homework assignments, read, and prepare for school in a safe and well-lit environment. This intervention reduces dependence on costly or unsafe lighting alternatives such as candles or kerosene lamps, while creating a stable learning space within the home.
Balusa shared, “Hello, my name is Balusa. I want to say a very big thank you to Develop Africa for this solar light. With this solar light, I will be able to study at home even when there is no electricity. Thank you.”
By improving access to light, you are supporting academic continuity, strengthening educational outcomes, and contributing to the long-term development of future leaders.
Thank you for your continued commitment to expanding access to education and empowering students with the tools they need to succeed.
With sincere appreciation,
Amy & the Develop Africa Team
