Joseph, a former student of Develop Africa Sierra Leone’s computer training program, explains that before joining the program, he did not have a clear path or a reliable way to earn a living. Today, thanks to the digital skills he gained, he is running his own small computer services business where he provides typing, printing, and other services to people in his community.
Joseph shared his story of transformation: "Hello, I am Joseph, a former student of Develop Africa Sierra Leone. Develop Africa has done great for me. Presently, I'm working in my shop where I print and type for people. I even assist people that are less knowledgeable in computers—I teach and help them with their computer courses."
Through the training he received, Joseph developed practical computer skills that allowed him to open his own business and begin earning an income. He explained that before joining Develop Africa’s program, he had very few opportunities, but learning computer skills helped him create a new path for himself.
Joseph’s story shows the ripple effect of education and workforce training. Not only is he earning a living, but he is also helping others by sharing his knowledge and supporting others who are learning computer skills. This is what it means to educate future leaders—helping students gain skills that allow them to become independent, contribute to their communities, and help others succeed.
Thank you for making stories like Joseph’s possible. Your generosity is helping turn education into opportunity and opportunity into independence.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Amy and the Develop Africa Team
