Educate Underprivileged Children in Liberia

The Carolyn A. Miller High School’s Kindergarten II and sixth-grade closing program is a momentous event, marking the transition of young students to new stages of their educational journey. This year’s program was particularly memorable, with a keynote speaker whose message resonated deeply with the audience.

The makeup of this program was a series of activities that were done by the students. The performances, songs, inspirational poems, giving of certificates and speeches added a touch of sweetness and nostalgia to the event, making it a memorable day for everyone involved. The keynote speaker skillfully wove together the themes of community, school, and home, illustrating how these three elements are interconnected and interdependent.

Our speaker Mrs. Tokpah, emphasized the profound influence of the community on a child’s development. She pointed out that a supportive community fosters a safe and nurturing environment where children can explore their interests and develop their potential.

She then turned the focus to the school’s impact, underscoring its role as a second home for children, and highlighted that a positive school environment, with engaging curriculum and supportive educators, is essential for fostering a love of learning and encouraging children to reach their full potential.

Our keynote speaker underlined the impact of the home environment. Parents and guardians are the primary caregivers and role models in a child’s life, and their influence is immeasurable.  She stressed the importance of creating a loving and supportive home where children feel safe, valued, and encouraged to express themselves.

She concluded by encouraging parents to use the canvas platform to create a drawing, a collage, or any visual representation that captures the vision for their child’s future. Think about the skills they might develop, the careers they might pursue, the kind of people they will become, and the impact they might have on the world.

At the end of the program, Carolyn A. Miller High School vice principal, Mr. Sumo appreciates everyone for the help that has been offered to their institution. He said, as administrators, we are proud to witness the success of each graduate and look forward to seeing the positive impact they will make in the future.

We move forward not by only looking to the future, but learning from the past.
