ZET January 2023 Update

World AIDS Day
Happy new year one and all and we’re hoping now for an upwards curve. 2022 was challenging in a lot of ways not least for those vulnerable communities we serve. An unstable economy, erratic rainfall, coming out of Covid, the knock on effects of the Ukraine conflict and a raft of other issues highlight that our work is as important as ever. So we are proud to say that in the last three months we’ve been doing what we always do.
We’ve been back to Inyaguwe Primary school where they report the school’s farming endeavours are going from strength to strength. They’re expanding their farmland and are building on the tens of thousands of meals they’ve been able to give to their students.
We’ve been delivering birth registration where it’s needed, conducting community visits to help reach the people that can’t come to us. We also took part in World AIDS Day and remembered the lives lost. We’ve put in a £13,000 proposal to get donor funding to address this issue so fingers crossed that comes off!
We’ve seen young women through their vocational specialisms in cutting and designing where they’ve made some clothes you’d be proud to wear.
All in all we’ve been busy as heck and it’s time to say thank you because every donation helps. Thank You!

ZET August 2022 Update

Medline arrives at Heathrow
We were delighted to see Medline arrive in the UK to take up a job in health services. Having gone through the Rafiki course and qualified as a Nurse Aid she made all the arrangements herself and is now fulfilling a life goal of living in the UK as well as pursuing her passion for helping others. It all makes sense as when she finished the programme she had told us;
“It has really changed me a lot in terms of how I was conducting myself. I was not someone who can make decisions and was not confident in society. I now am able to make decisions, I can go in to the community.”
We’ve also been taking a little look in the mirror and are now part way through a board effectiveness review. Good governance should be at the heart of any charity so we’re looking to improve what we can achieve on fundraising and in other areas. Let us know if you could be interested!
Finally, our last project with Foundations for Farming yielded a whopping growth of 1,167% in maize production. Feeding students and buying equipment for the school. Now that’s proper impact!

May 2022 Update

Our previous visit with Foundations for Farming
In the last three months we’ve been looking at how our operations can make the greatest impact and how we can best serve the people we support.
We’ve been doing analysis on our work to support vulnerable young women in Harare and have some exciting data to show for it. For example, we saw an average growth of 164% when students were asked to rate their Self-Confidence at the start and finish. And an average growth of 201% when students asked to rate their Financial Management at the start and finish.
We’ve evaluated one of our recent projects with our wonderful partner Foundations for Farming and considered how to improve project sustainably though educating more people in schools and the community as well as delivering over a longer period of time.
We’ve been speaking to the good people at Mannion Daniels who manage UK AID direct funds for FCDO. We talked about the power of social media and how telling stories to our audience is key as well as being plugged in to other organisations operating in our sector so that we can all contribute to the collective knowledge pool.
We’re confident that given all this work we’ll be delivering positive change where it’s needed most and we’d like to thank each and every one of our supporters for the invaluable help you give us.
