Empowering the Future of Fashion: Tackling the Waste Crisis

By Hannah Lane | Development Director at Redress

Dear Valued Donor,

As we celebrate the 14th cycle of the Redress Design Award, we remain dedicated to reducing fashion’s textile waste by empowering the next generation of designers. We are thrilled to announce that Tiger Chung from Hong Kong has been named this year’s winner. Alongside the other 31 leading designers, they will join our growing Redress Alumni Network, where they will receive ongoing support, including opportunities for networking, education, and career development in sustainable fashion. You can explore the profiles and brands of our Redress Alumni by clicking here.

“Fashion is rightly criticised for its negative environmental impact, which is a huge concern for designers like myself. But we intend to change this — and make fashion better for the planet,” shared Tiger Chung, the 2024 Redress Design Award winner.

It’s estimated that 80% of a product's environmental impact is determined at the design stage. At Redress, we educate designers to become champions of the circular economy—a system where materials never become waste, nature is regenerated, and the entire lifecycle of a product is responsibly managed to minimise environmental impact.

Dr. Christina Dean, Founder of Redress, emphasised, "This competition win is a victory not just for the designer, but for an industry in urgent need of creative solutions and consumer engagement to tackle the growing waste crisis, particularly in Asia. We need rapid change and collaboration at the design stage."

As Asia faces mounting challenges from climate change and textile waste, Redress will proudly present a runway show at Shanghai Fashion Week on 16th October, featuring emerging Chinese sustainable fashion designers from the Redress Design Award 2024. This showcase will demonstrate the power of education, collaboration, and innovation in advancing circular practices in fashion.

We invite you to join us in driving sustainable change in the industry. By contributing to our cause here, you can help us continue this important work and support the growth of emerging talents committed to a sustainable future.

Thank you for your generosity and continued support. Together, we can make a lasting impact.
