A new experience was given to the children in November 2020 as they participated in Marakele National Park’s “SANParks” week, which took place November 16th-20th. They were tasked with creating sculptures entirely out of recyclable material, which taught them many things, including recycling to improve the environment, cooperation with other children, having a plan and following through, and perseverance to finish. Their sculptures were displayed at the main reception of Marakele National Park.
The children finished off last year with dedicated hard work towards their exams. Support was given to the children to study for their exams by volunteers and staff at Thabang and when they finished their last exam it was time to relax and enjoy the December-January holidays!
We are grateful to the teams of people from Pretoria and Johannesburg in December, for their visit here at Thabang. Together with other sponsors, they gave the children party packs of clothes and goodies, performed skits, spoke to the children about important life topics, and held a Sunday service for them. The children were able to play marimba for their guests as well! Through these groups coming, the children were able to be educated through experience; they learned about practical life skills, they heard about other people’s journeys in education and how they were able to obtain their goals, and they were able to play a variety of new games, which develops their motor skills and critical thinking! In addition, they were exposed to new ways of information being presented, such as through an educational skit.
The children thoroughly enjoyed their holiday and the different kind of education it provided and will begin this new school year on February 15th with renewed vigor and new opportunities for success!
