Educating the Thabang Children

CLOSING THE YEAR OF 2021

At least the 32 children who are taken care of in the Thabang Child & Youth Care Centre, could celebrate the closing of 2021 with a visit to Warmbaths Forever Resort in Bela Bela. This annual treat was not allowed end of 2020, due to the pandemic.

The children can cope in the water as they learn about water safety at Thabang. This is all part of being holistically educated.

Some of the children who attended the Thabang Drop-in Centre at the informal settlement of Smasher Block in 2021, were also able to have water-fun at the local swimming pool of Amandelbult Mine. They were accompanied by a team of volunteers from Johannesburg.

Friends of Thabang, from far and near, provided specially selected gift bags, with which to bless all our 32 residential children. The gifts consisted of clothes, toiletries, toys, stationery and of course some candy for the sweet teeth!

Here the 50 children were also made to feel special with gift bags and new clothes, handed out by a volunteer team. The important meaning of Christmas was also explained to them. Each child had a turn to run up to the front and collect their special gift bag.

THABANG'S 2021 MATRICULANTS DRESSED FOR THE MATRIC FAREWELL

These two young adults exited the Child & Youth Care centre to start a new life in the adult world in 2022. Having both spent about 7 years at Thabang Child & Youth Care centre, they took the principles and skills they learnt out into the world.

Thabang will keep in contact with them to make sure that they have the support they need to cope with their new lives

After lots of hard work learning and practicing, our Marimba team received First place in the Junior Instrumental division in the competition: 'Stars of the Universe'
