At Thabang Child & Youth Care Centre and at the Thabang Drop-in Centre, we endeavour to provide opportunities for the children in our care, to obtain the best education that is possible.

Each child or youth have their own special strengths and we try to enhance these strengths.   We also aim to correct any weaknesses in order to help them become positive, independent community members.

We are so proud of our one young man who has been at the Child & Youth Care centre since he was 5 years old. He matriculated in 2023 and had amazing achievements.  Within our local district, he achieved the highest in Technical Maths with 93%.  He was also one of the top 40 pupils within the Educational Circuit.  Jack, is now studying for a diploma in Electrical Engineering at Tshwane University of Technology in Pretoria. As his matric results were good, he was offered a study bursary from Anglo-American.

A young lady, from Thabang, Nathalie, who in 2023 was doing an internship at a large company, has now received a promotion within her field of Human Resources and has to perform extra financial responsibilities for the company.

Another young lady, Grace, started a job at a general practitioner’s consulting rooms in the beginning of 2024. She is still completing her studies online, while working. She is an admin assistant and is learning information regarding Medical Insurance companies and how to deal with them. She is also learning how to deal with patients and to do stocktaking in the small pharmacy.

In 2024, Rebecca from the Thabang Drop-in centre, started her final 6 months in her course for Early Childhood Development at a college near Bela-Bela. She will complete her N6 Theoretical course in June this year. She has applied to a school in Pretoria to do an internship for 18 months, in order to complete her diploma.

There are other youth who have exited Thabang and we still have contact with them and give advice and show interest where we can. Sometimes, these youth return and encourage the children within the centres to make the most of the opportunities which are provided to them by Thabang.
