Momentum 947 Cycle Challenge 2015
The team that cycled for Thabang at the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge in Johannesburg in November came from near and far and all walks of life. Some were young and some not. However, they all have their hearts in the right place! Thanks to all who joined the Thabang team, and all who helped promote Thabang from the sidelines!
Family re-unification
The first and second of July were joyous days at Thabang CYCC when children from two different families were reunited with their long lost families. One family was found in Ledile Section in Lebotlwane, the other family in Lephengville in Hammanskraal. Children have not seen their families for years.
Staff function
The staff function (party) was held on the 10th December 2015, with the aid of a gener-ous meat donation from Roots Butchery from Northam
Aventura Outing
The Thabang Children take to water at Aventura like ducks , thanks to the Thabang Verein fuer suedafrikanische Kinder e.V for financing the Outing.
Independent Living Programme
Thabang has recently embarked on a programme where support is given to those semi-adults who are old enough to leave Thabang, but have nowhere to go and no job to go to. The programme will involve skills training, finding accommodation and jobs, help with finances and still providing a “home” to fall back on for visits. In the programme, help will be provided until the age of 21.
We currently have 2 boys in the programme. One is receiving training on a game farm in the Thabazimbi area, the other is in the process of obtaining his driver’s licence.
Schools improvement
About half of the children from Thabang are receiving much better education, since they have been ad-mitted to better schools. Although the new schools are very expensive (and Thabang is battling to pay the school fees), there has been a marked improvement in the level of education and the children’s holis-tic development. Let’s hope we will be able to continue providing these children with a good education.
Smash Block Functions
The Letsgo Thabazimbi Team from Shofar Christian Church -Pretoria was at Thabang’s Drop in Centre in Smash Block on the 28th November 2015 to celebrate Christmas with the children from the informal settlement. They brought with them gifts in the form of sweet packs for the day as well as for the Orphans and Vulnerable Children’s Christmas Party which was held on the 30th November.
Spar Thabazimbi, Pick N’ Pay and FoodZone made outstanding contributions in the form of hotdogs, the amazing cake, drinks and cupcakes for the children, all this making a Christmas to cherish for the children.
