Education for the Stateless: Machar Colony, Karach

Dear GlobalGiving Community,

We’re thrilled to share a major milestone from Khel, Imkaan Welfare Organization’s learning and recreational centre based in Machar Colony, Karachi.

As the academic year came to a close, we witnessed the highest number of children from Khel successfully transition into mainstream schools—a testament to the resilience of our students and the dedication of our team.

This achievement comes after a year-long learning journey focused on foundational literacy, numeracy, and emotional readiness. Many of these children had never attended formal school before and arrived at Khel unable to read or write. Through consistent, nurturing support and an adaptive curriculum tailored to their pace, we built not just their academic skills, but also their confidence to thrive in formal education settings.

We are proud to share the following placement numbers into mainstream schools this year:

• The Citizens Foundation (TCF) Schools – 27 students

• Shah Sultan School – 01 student

• Hilal Public School – 06 students

• Private Schools – 22 students

• Begum Hajra School – 21 students

That’s a total of 77 children who are now part of formal education systems—each child a powerful reminder of what is possible when safe learning spaces are created and sustained.
