Once upon a time in St. Nicholas, a cute little angle come to us at her age of 8.
Now she is 21 years old and still learning in Deaf Blind and multi-handicapped class. Why?
Angel was diagnosed at the age of 8 with Global Development Delay (a medical condition which causes delays in all areas of a child's development). Angel's growth is lagging and stunted; she is no bigger than a normal 21 years young adult. Siti was also born with no eyes and some facial deformities.
When Angel first arrived at St. Nicholas' Home, she was not able to walk. She had lived with her grandfather in a small town, as her parent abandoned her. Angel was malnourished and weak when we first saw her. Throughout her growing years her loving grandfather had carried her about thinking that Siti was immobile.
Angel able to learnt to walk and recognize teachers and staff by their voices and could cheerfully address each of them loudly. She able to talk and communicate with people.
Unfortunately, she is unable to take care of herself like a normal young adult due to her global development delay. St. Nicholas' Home has been given a lot of effort by consulting medical expert such as psychiarat and occupational therapy.
She is taken good care by our 3 housemothers. We hope that she can live happiness in St. Nicholas' Home, Penang for the rest of her life. However, St. Nicholas' Home is totally rely on public funds and private donations to sustain our programmes. Sourcing funds to continue providing education, training and services for the blind and visually impaired induviduals in Malaysia has always been challenging, especially amid the COVID-19 outbreak.
Hence, we humbly seek your genenosity donations from you.
Thank you for being the beacon in our lives and we will be forever grateful for your support.
