Margaret (not her real name) is the third born in a family of four. She is in form 3 at Menengai High School and had not been to school since the whole of last term due to the balance of school fees that her mother could not raise. They used to live in Kiratina but were kicked out of their house due to non payment of rent. They had to look for a cheap mud house to move to at Murugi, which is where we met the family during one of our food hamper distributions, and learned about their situation. When I first met her mother, she was returning from school where she was trying to talk to the principal into allowing Margaret back into class, but she refused. To get Margaret back into school her mother would have to come up with US $110.00 in past due school fees along with the current terms fees of US $40.00, along with a uniform and text books. Monies that would be impossible for Margaret's mother to raise.
Her mother does casual jobs such as laundering and farm jobs. She was struggling to pay Margaret's fees from the casual jobs that she does. With the high cost of living, she does not get jobs that easily these days and can stay for weeks without anyone offering her work. Margaret’s father walked out on the family when things became hard and offers no support. The firstborn is doing casual jobs at Free Area to assist the mother in paying rent and putting a meal on the table for his siblings. Sometimes, he goes without a job for days. The 2nd born has no job and is at home taking care of the last born, who is still young and hasn’t joined school yet.
Fortunately, thanks to the generosity of kind donors like YOU we were able to bring Margaret's arrears up to date, pay for this terms fees and school supplies and get her back into school. The stress and fear of not being admitted back into school every term is now a thing of the past for this very grateful teenage girl.
Your support isn't just an investment in education; it's an investment in a world where every individual's potential is unleashed, and opportunities are abundant.
Wishing you and your loved ones a year ahead filled with love, joy, excellent health prosperity, laughter and peace!
Warmest regards,
