The road to school is more than a physical journey; it's a lifeline.

By Jennifer Hughes-Bystrom | Founder/CEO

In rural Kenya, the road to school is more than just a physical journey; it’s a lifeline. For high school-aged girls, staying in school can mean the difference between a life shaped by choice and one defined by circumstance.

Too often, poverty, cultural expectations, and limited opportunity push young girls out of the classroom and into early marriage. Once married, many are forced to abandon their education, face early pregnancies, and carry adult responsibilities while still children themselves. The dreams they once held—to become teachers, nurses, business owners—fade under the weight of survival.

But when a girl stays in school, everything changes.

Education empowers her. It builds confidence, critical thinking, and practical skills. It protects her from early marriage, gives her a voice in her community, and opens doors to economic independence. A girl who finishes high school is not only more likely to earn a steady income—she’s also more likely to invest in her family’s health, education, and future.

At Springs of Hope Foundation's Kijiji Mission, based in Nakuru, Kenya, we see this transformation every day. We work with girls who have the ambition but not the means. Girls who are hungry to learn but held back by school fees, uniforms, or the simple burden of being born into poverty.

That’s where sponsorship becomes life-changing.

Sponsorship isn’t just about covering school costs—it’s about restoring dignity, possibility, and hope. It gives a girl a reason to believe in her future and the support to reach it. Sponsors help us keep girls safe, in school, and surrounded by the encouragement they need to thrive.

Meet Purity, one of our sponsored girls, and enjoy her message to you.

Warmest regards,

Jennifer Hughes-Bystrom
