Empowering 100 Disadvantaged Sri Lankan Girls

Since our last report, we have found sufficient space in the grounds of the institution to support the exciting new bakery. It has been a long process to install electricity and water supplies to the building and the next step is for the commercial bakery supplier to move the huge and heavy equipment after the Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations.

With your generous donations and the help of Wimbledon High School, we now have the funds to make this space into a fully operating bakery, with the potential to also become income generating in time.

Thanks to the Commissioner of the Southern Province we have found a great bakery teacher, and will begin classes in the next few weeks, 

The sewing classes within the institution are going amazingly well, and the teachers are training the girls in many styles of embroidery. With funds raised, we were able to donate a sewing machine to one of the girls who has recently left the institution to help her start a small business and become sustainable.

I can't wait for our next report to share news once this is fully operational which will undoubtedly help provide the girls with the much-needed experience to obtain employment outside of the institution as well as a fantastic new interest in learning cooking skills.
