From Crisis to Confidence

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Over the past few months, our team at the Heartbeat Centre has been hard at work supporting some truly courageous young women, and we wanted to take a moment to share some of their stories and progress with you.

One of the biggest milestones this quarter was seeing two of our amazing girls sit their advanced-level exams. Thanks to dedicated tuition and their own determination, they’re on track for a bright future, with results due later this year. Others are preparing for their O-Levels, and all the girls have recently passed their English speaking, writing and group drama exams, next up, public speaking! Watching their confidence grow has been a real joy.

Education is not the only thing blooming at the centre. From jewellery-making to ornament design, our girls are learning new creative skills that could one day lead to financial independence. It’s incredible to watch their talents unfold.

We also welcomed a new girl this quarter, just 16 and referred from a remand home. She’s already settling in and starting her journey with us.

Over Christmas, the girls joined our team to run games at our children’s party in Unawatuna. It was a wonderful day of fun and learning, with leadership, organisation and teamwork on full display. And, of course, there was a trip to the beach afterwards, a rare and much-needed treat.

In a more serious moment, we also provided urgent support to a foreign mother and her 3-year-old daughter escaping domestic violence. With our help, they’ve now got a protection order and a safe space to recover.

Looking ahead, we plan to expand our vocational training to include sewing, embroidery, and cosmetology, providing the girls with even more options. But we can’t do that without your help.

We need support to continue this vital work, from educational resources to specialist trainers and everyday essentials. Every donation, big or small, helps give these young women the tools to rewrite their futures.

Thank you so much for walking alongside us and believing in the power of second chances.

With warm wishes,

Joel & the Heartbeat Centre Team
